Elephant Mountain | Taipei 2019

象山

Country: Taipei, Taiwan

Address: Xiangshan Trail, Alley 342, Lane 150, Section 5, Xinyi Road, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110

Nearest Subway Station: Xiangshan Station

Itinerary: Day 3 - #4 stop

How Did I Get There: Bus from Dong Dong Gun Black Tofu Pudding to nearest MRT Station, MRT train to Xiangshan Station

While Taiwan is known for their good food, I wanted to incorporate some physical activities into our itinerary (much to my friend's distaste jk). Elephant mountain is known for its easy trail, hence it is suitable for people of different stamina level.

✔ Accessible

As the subway station is named after the mountain itself, the trail is just a few minutes walk from one of their exits (just google map or refer to the signboards available). They also have a signboard right at the bottom of the trail so you definitely will not miss it.

✔ Food and drink stalls available

From a few steps up the flight of stairs, there is a stall selling roasted chestnuts and freshly squeezed orange juice. Additionally, there are several cafes just outside the start of the trail so you have head over there before or after the hike up.

✔ Manageable hike for all

As mentioned that it is an easy hike up, we slowly made it up to the top in less than 30 minutes. There are several seats along the way for climbers to take a rest. Just note that the hike is quite steep and most of the steps may not be of the same height. Do watch every step (I mean it) while hiking up as my foot tripped over a few times.

✘ May get crowded

Easily achievable things may attract a hype among tourists. With that being said, there were a lot of tourists and locals while we were hiking up and down the trail. Just be careful that when you stop for a rest, keep to the side where you are not blocking anyone's pathway.

Most blog posts would mentioned that the top would have several boulders for you to climb up for that perfect Instagram shot. However, they are missing out on the possible long queue behind them.

Although one of my biggest regret is not climbing up that boulder, the fact that I was in a pinafore and that long queue made me felt that it was a no-go. Hence, after resting at the top and a few shots, we made our way down and on to the next stop.
