Country: Taipei, Taiwan

Address: Emei Street, Taipei

Previous accommodation in Taichung: Yizhong Loft Hostel

For our 4D3N in Taipei, we stayed in an apartment owned by Rex, booked via Airbnb. It cost SGD$30.73* per night then and my total came down to SGD$139.75, inclusive of cleaning and service charges.

Booking

Rex was super responsive throughout the booking process and very efficient in answering all of our enquiries. Upon confirmation, we talked on KakaoTalk where he gave very detailed instructions and directions to the apartment. He also has LINE and WeChat to cater to people from all places. Fluent in both English and Mandarin, we were very comfortable in the way he respond to all of our concerns.

Check In

Given his instructions, we had no issues in checking us in and using his lock. As we were reaching Taipei ahead of his stated check in timing (3pm), Rex allowed us to store our luggage in advance. However, it was the timing where his stated cleaner would be cleaning the room so we brought along our valuables and locked our stuff.

First Impression

The room was relatively dim with the orange lights but I felt that we had all the things we need for a short stay. As compared to our Taichung accommodation, I was happy to see basic necessities such as kettle and washing machine.

Although it was not as spacious as our Taichung accommodation, I felt that it was cosy enough for two person with two large luggages. With a small table and two chairs, we could chill in the morning and have light breakfast with food we bought the previous night.

The toilet was quite clean and we didn’t have much complains about. Having a washing machine means we could do laundry so thank god that we did not have to pack a lot of clothes.

Closer look

The small rack was a cute decoration but not quite ideal for laundry given the number of hangers available. We ended up hanging wet clothes all over the place - from the bathroom, towel racks and lighter loads on the television edge.

I think my favourite thing about staying at Rex's listing was that he had a suitcase weighing scale in the bedside table. It was an useful and detailed touch that was very much appreciated. In that way, we could see if things could be backed in our checked in luggage or to be hand-carried.

Final Thoughts

The accommodation is in a relative old building, 10-15 minutes walk from Ximending Night Market. Security seems fine, given that there was a guard at the entrance. However, I would say that the walk to the place itself was very quiet especially at night. That aside, there was convenience store and several food options along the way so its not too bad.

That's all I have for this place.
