How Did I Get There: Walk from Hanbat Arboretum
From Google, I researched to know that Lee Ungno was a Korean-borned French painter. Not sure about other visitors, but I felt that there was a lack of introduction to the artist despite having a large wall text about the exhibition "The Art of Drawing" and the Lee's artistic world.
Besides the usual painting, there are sculptures and objects made by Lee - ranging from woodcut to carvings on wood furniture. All of which, I failed to capture on camera. But what's interesting for Lee's sculptures is how there would be sketches to show his thought process and how he slowly produce the perfect form of his work.
(The some information from the following may be extracted from the exhibition's brochure) To me, the exhibition highlights the planning process more than the actual artwork itself. We get to see different sketches for a painting/ sculpture, from pencil drawing, to inks on paper. Sure enough, the exhibition aims to expand on the concept of "the drawing", which has been commonly misunderstood as an unfinished work of art (as compared to completed painting/ sculptures). It encourages visitors to learn to view them as independent and complex entities.
