How Did I Get There: Walk from Leeungno Museum
Filled with what I guess can be categorized as contemporary arts, DMUA houses several exhibitions with the aims to support local artists and educate people on their art scene.
ON-OFF : Welcome to light
ON-OFF : Welcome to light features seven artists: Kim Taehoon, Yoon Seoki and Heo Subin. "This exhibition is based on the belief that art has the power to both reveal and ameliorate the social ills that arise from the artificial nature of urban systems and their construction, that it is a means of creating new, more communicative, and more engaged societies." - DMUA
Without reading the wall text, I would say that it was hard to understand with zero context. Even so, it was deep but still interesting to see the mediums used in each installation.
NEXT CODE 2019
2019 Next Code features seven artists: Kim Jaeyeon, Noh Sanghee, Park Seungman, Park Yonghwa, Lee Yunhee, Lee Jaeseok, and Jang Jaemin. "Their work creates new contexts for examining and portraying urban spaces, contexts that arise from the artists’ own experiences of contemporary life." - DMUA
Some of our favourite works are by Park Yonghwa, whose "paintings and installations capture the fear and insecurity inherent in contemporary life by addressing the ambiguous boundary between human and animal: namely, the aesthetic point where the humanity of animals and the animality of humans becomes visible." - DMUA
Park's installation titled HUMAN CAGE put the audience in the position of a caged animal, demonstrating the effects of the hierarchy of the observer and the observed. "It is a provocative statement against the anthropocentric nature of humans’ relationship with animals." - DMUA
Similar to the Singapore Art Science Museum, there will be different exhibitions depending on the period of your travel. Thus, I highly recommend to check out their website here prior your visit to manage your expectations on what is available at that period of time.
