For those who are unaware, the Peranakans are a sub-ethnic group that was a result of intermarriage between Chinese settlers and their Malay, Thai, Javanese, or other predecessors in the region. Some states that it was evidence of having multiracial community in the past.
The Pinang Peranakan Mansion offers a glimpse of their lifestyle and of their many customs and traditions with over 1,000 pieces of antiques and collectibles of the era on display.
Upon entering the front door, we followed the cue poles and paid our entrance fee (MYR 20). One thing to note that the staff mentioned to us that there was no subsidies or separate ticket price for elderly or Malaysians.
The 2-story mansion have many rooms and courtyards leading to different part of the museum. From dining rooms that had antiques with western touch and traditional bedrooms with wedding aspects, there was so much to see.
Although their site and signs state to refrain from touching their artefacts, we see many visitors engaging with them at different parts of the mansion. Tour guides and staff onsite did not stop them so I would say that there was an interactive factor in this museum while you pose for photos.
All visitors are required to remove their shoes when heading up to level 2. From there, you would see many visitors taking photos along the corridor. There's just no reason not to because the railing was so pretty!
IG-worthy shots aside, so remember to look around their courtyards as they lead to souvenir shops, exhibitions featuring Peranakan funerals, beaded shoes and many more.
That's all I have for this place.
