How Did I Get There: Walk
Hin Bus Depot is a Creative Hub in George Town that houses a Gallery, a sustainable community of Outlets and arts & events Spaces for hire. Previously one of the many private companies with motorbus licenses to operate on the island in the aftermath of World War II, they currently work to support and nurture creatives by providing a platform for their artistic execution.
I visited the place in July 2017 as part of a school trip and attended a tour around the place. The tour consist of talks with the local artists around their exhibitions and workshop space.
In December 2019, I visited their Sunday Pop-Up Market with my mom. I would really recommend planning your itinerary around this as it only happens every Sunday. The place was buzzing with life. There were many artists - both locals and foreigners, performing live and selling their (mostly) handmade items.
Aside from the shopping, there were multiple stores selling street food and tables set up for people to have their meals. On normal days when the market is not happening, there are also F&B outlets in the vicinity. One iconic thing to get is this Water Kefir Soda, a natural Probiotic drink made from real fruit and organic sugar. They have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic version, both extremely fizzy so open with care.
Aside from the Sunday Pop-Up Market, there are tons of mural and installations around the art space. Made by artists all around the world, the place makes up a super IG-worthy place even if you don't visit on Sunday.
That's all I have for this place.
