How Did I Get There: Grab
Named as the First Container Pop Up Mall in Penang, the space used to be a nightclub and hotel. With the space being converted into an instagram-worthy concept similar to Common Ground in Korea, Cubopark is expected to offer cafes, clothing stores, bars and more.
We had early dinner at the coffee shop closest to the entrance. As Singapore and Malaysia have plenty of them around the country, it was quite surprising to see only 3 stalls open. The rest were empty, not even with any signboard.
Nonetheless, the food were pretty alright. One of the stallowner came by for some small talks and shared that the coffee shop was closed for a while for renovation. As it was hard for the locals to manage without an income, they moved out of Cubopark. With that, there were very little customers on days so it was hard to maintain business to pay rent too.
Outside the coffee shop consist of a few lanes of stores. Not sure if we reached too early, a lot of the stores were not opened throughout our time there. Though the space is not completely occupied yet, the place did give off an abandoned vibe when we were there.
It really is a playground for photographers, with many potential IG spots.
One spot that caught our eyes was this Hong Kong dessert shop named SYST, which I will write about more in another post here. Their color exterior stood out from the vintage surrounding so it was a spot not to be missed.
As most stores are closed throughout our few hours of stay there, I’m not sure how would everything look when they are open - or if they have tenants in the first place. Prior to heading there, we had limited informations. Majority of the sites that I found only had a few photos of their container mall and little informations of what stores are available. Hopefully everything will become livelier as time goes by.
That's all I have for this place.
